I’d just like to know how you are getting those beets to grow so beautifully. Mine are just sitting there doing nothing. Is that a first year vegetable bed?

Not much, honestly. They’re growing in a second-year bed, which we refreshed with compost from our bin before re-planting. We’re watering regularly…that’s about it.

About Seeds

Seeds is about my experiences with nature and gardening in Austin, Texas. Austin lies on the border of two natural regions: the Blackland Prairie and the Edwards Plateau. My family's house and garden are located in Northwest Austin; we garden beneath cedar elms and live oaks in dry, rocky shade.
